ONCE Foundation for the Support of People with Deafblindness
What is deafblindness?
Deafblindness is a disability resulting from a combination of visual and hearing impairments, which can vary in severity. This combination makes it more difficult to access information, communicate and move around independently, and can significantly affect a person’s autonomy.
Every person with deafblindness experiences the condition differently. Some retain a degree of sight or hearing, while others are unable to see or hear. Deafblindness may be present from birth or develop later in life, and the age at which it occurs influences each person’s individual needs.
Due to its unique characteristics, deafblindness requires specialised support. Adapted communication methods, support services and trained professionals are essential to help people interact with their surroundings and participate fully in everyday life.
Your support makes a difference
People with deafblindness need specialised resources and support to live as independently as possible. Access to these services can make a significant difference in essential areas of life, including communication, education, employment and personal relationships.
Social organisations work to address these needs and promote a more accessible and inclusive society. To make this possible, we also rely on the support of others. Every contribution helps maintain and expand the resources available to people with deafblindness.
Your donation helps provide the support they need and creates more opportunities for them to participate fully in society.
