Dreamers: Verónica González

When the body speaks and no one listens
At ILUNION Hotels, we are convinced that every personal story is a source of inspiration. We believe that sharing experiences, with their ups and downs, makes us stronger and connects us as human beings. That is why we created “Dreamers,” a window into the lives of the people who are the soul of our company.
Today, the protagonist is Verónica González, our Talent Development expert. Her story is a testimony of resilience, of the tireless search for answers, and above all, of the power of living in the present.
Vero’s life changed in 2019. A fainting spell on the train was the first sign that something was not right. The initial diagnosis, “panic attack,” didn’t fit with what she was feeling. “I was happy with my job, with my family,” she tells us. But the symptoms, pain, and weight loss continued. She didn’t give up. She knew she had to keep searching.
It wasn’t until 2022, on her birthday, that she finally put a name to what was happening to her: fibromyalgia. A central sensitization syndrome, a chronic, incurable disease that brings with it pain, anxiety, and profound hypersensitivity. Far from being an end, the diagnosis was a starting point. Through research, she discovered a possible link to her breast implants and made the brave decision to have them explanted. The result was a remarkable improvement, a new opportunity.
Throughout this entire process, her arrival at ILUNION Hotels was a balm. It was a place where she didn’t have to justify herself, where the team became a second family. An environment of understanding and support that was key on her path to well-being.
“The only thing I want is to have health to enjoy my family,” Vero confesses with a serene smile. Her dream is no longer in the future, but in the here and now. Her greatest aspiration is simple yet the most profound of all: to live one day at a time.
Vero’s story teaches us that true strength does not lie in not falling, but in knowing how to get up. Her testimony is a beacon of hope and a life lesson that inspires us all.
