ILUNION Hotels Obtains the ISO 56001 Innovation Certificate from AENOR

The First Tourism Company to Certify Its Innovation System

Madrid, May 20, 2025

At ILUNION Hotels, we have always believed that innovation means transformation—not just any transformation, but one with purpose, a broad vision, and people at the center. Today, we take a further step in that conviction: we have become the first company in the tourism sector to obtain certification from AENOR under the ISO 56001 standard, the new international benchmark for innovation management.

This certification not only recognizes our system but also acknowledges a different way of doing things. Our innovation model—#InnovACCIÓN—is not just a department; it is a culture that permeates the entire company. It is precisely this cross-functional involvement and firm commitment to innovating through diversity and collaboration that led AENOR to certify our system under a standard that, until now, only two other organizations have achieved.

The official certificate presentation took place at Torre ILUNION in a symbolic ceremony attended by Rafael García Meiro, CEO de AENOR; José Ángel Preciados, CEO de ILUNION Hotels; and Alejandro Oñoro, CEO de ILUNION and Chairman of ILUNION Hotels. Also present, were, the innovation directors from both entities, members of the hotel management team, and corporate team members.

The third man, on the right, is applauding. In the background, part of the text reads: “ILUNION Hotels obtains the Innovation Certificate,” indicating an award or certification event.

Innovating with Purpose, Always

During the ceremony, José Ángel Preciados emphasized that this certification “is a recognition of an entire team that believes things can be done differently.” For us, innovation is not only technological or methodological—it is human. And it must generate positive social and environmental impact.

Following this, Carlos Bello, Innovation Director at ILUNION Hotels, and Lisístrata Carballeda, Business Director of R&D&I at AENOR, elaborated on the key elements of the #InnovACCIÓN model: a structured approach, a transversal perspective, and a commitment to impact.

“Our approach is based on defined processes, clear indicators, and a constant focus on real impact on clients, teams, and the environment,”

explained Carlos Bello.

An Innovation Culture That Is Already a Benchmark

The ISO 56001:2024 standard sets the requirements an organization must meet to implement, maintain, and improve an innovation management system. The audit conducted by AENOR—led by its R&D&I director, Gerardo Malvido—particularly valued the maturity of the model, the commitment of the teams, and the alignment of the system with the company’s strategic objectives.

Highlighted initiatives include:

  • I’m Curious, our innovation training program
  • The internal newsletter Spotlight
  • The collaborative ecosystem #InnovACTION X-PACE, among others

A Seal That Drives Us Forward

This certification is, in the words of Alejandro Oñoro, “a validation of the path we have been following for years.” A path that doesn’t end here but is strengthened: a measurable, auditable model aligned with the major challenges facing the hotel sector.

At ILUNION Hotels, innovation is not an option—it is a commitment to the future. And if that future can be fairer, more inclusive, and more sustainable, we will be there. Transforming. With purpose.
