ILUNION Romareda launches a “Friendly Space” for families of cancer patients
July 18, 2025
ILUNION Romareda has launched a Friendly Space in collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in Zaragoza. This charitable initiative provides a free and comforting environment for the families of individuals undergoing cancer treatment—especially for those enduring long hospital sessions.
A place of rest and support for caregivers
The project was born in response to a hidden reality: many of these people spend hours outside the hospital without a comfortable place to stay. They often turn to cafes or public spaces where, after a long time with minimal food, they feel uncomfortable or even rejected.
With the Friendly Space, ILUNION Romareda offers a different solution: a warm and welcoming area where they can wait at ease, use free Wi-Fi, read the newspaper, stay hydrated, and feel supported—without having to consume anything or justify their presence.

“We also want them to feel supported during such a difficult time. Our goal is to offer them a space where they can rest, disconnect for a moment, and feel looked after while they wait,” explains José Antonio Palau, director of the hotel.
Social accommodation for families with limited resources
The agreement signed between the hotel and AECC Zaragoza also includes the provision of solidarity accommodation for individuals travelling from other areas who cannot afford a place to stay, as assessed by the association.
ILUNION Hotels’ Commitment to the Community
This project—exclusive to ILUNION Romareda—perfectly reflects the way our hotels engage with the communities in which they operate: with empathy, with commitment, and with a strong service-driven spirit.
