ILUNION Hotels carries out waste collection in Cala Galdana

ILUNION Hotels participated in a waste collection day organized at Cala Galdana. This action is part of the sixth edition of the Mares Circulares program. The initiative was supported by ILUNION Hotels, Coca-Cola, and the Menorca City Council.

Volunteers collected a total of 46.2 kilos of waste, which was sorted for recycling. In addition, all the data gathered will be recorded, analyzed, and incorporated into the project’s database. This information, added to the monitoring and periodic collections since the first edition in 2018, is subsequently made available to researchers and scientists to develop innovative proposals that have a real impact on the conservation of marine environments.

For Elena Martín, Sustainability Director at ILUNION Hotels, developing this initiative means “putting into practice one of the projects framed within our alliance with Coca-Cola, focused on the circular economy and our commitment to SDG 12 (responsible production and consumption, and its target 12.5: reducing waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse activities); as well as our purpose: to build a better world with everyone included. What better way to contribute to a more sustainable and humane future than through collaboration between companies and local entities, promoting waste collection and recycling. Furthermore, we had a great team of volunteers to whom I want to express my gratitude for their willingness and participation. At ILUNION Hotels, we commit to partnering with those who share our values and purpose.”

Ricardo Muntaner, Communications Manager at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Iberia in the Balearic Islands, emphasized “the importance of alliances and collaborations to achieve goals such as those proposed by Mares Circulares to achieve a world and marine environment free of waste.

It is necessary to act to preserve these ecosystems and raise awareness about the need to implement actions that promote the circular economy. We all have the responsibility to ensure future generations inherit a better world than the one we found. We thank the volunteers who have been a great example of what we can achieve when we work as a team.”

Ramón Sintes, Councilor for Promotion and Economic Development, stated, “From the Ferreries City Council, we are very grateful to ONCE, Ilunion, and Coca-Cola for choosing Cala Galdana for this edition of Mares Circulares. There couldn’t be a better setting, as it is one of Menorca’s beaches with the highest environmental awareness, also thanks to the Blue Flag and services that help conserve the natural environment. From the city council, we continue working to focus on water management policies, such as the renovation and automation of Cala Galdana’s drinking water network, which will take place this winter.” “We also want to thank all the volunteers who joined the beach cleanup, especially the Grup de Caminants del Dijous and the first-year ESO students from CC Sant Francesc d’Assís. Different sectors of society must continue raising awareness to prevent waste from reaching the beaches,” added Sintes.

ILUNION Hotels and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners signed an alliance agreement in November 2022 to collaborate on different projects promoting diversity and sustainability values. This agreement goes beyond a client-supplier relationship and is based on seeking synergies in shared priorities, which are central to the strategy of both leading companies in sustainability and diversity.
