ILUNION Hotels relies on recycled materials to bring its spaces to life through an innovative technique that uses textile waste from its hotels to create cutting-edge furniture—an initiative that highlights the company’s strong commitment to sustainability.

The Madrid-based hotel and Special Employment Center (CEE), ILUNION Atrium, has been a pioneer within the chain by incorporating several pieces made through a process that repurposes used textiles, such as sheets or curtains, giving them a second life and promoting a circular economy model. Among the pieces created with this technique developed by WIM Studio are the mural at the entrance of the hotel restaurant and the reception furniture.

Environmental impact as a strategy for conscious tourism


One of the pillars of ILUNION Hotels’ Sustainability Strategy is environmental commitment. For this reason, the company works with collaborators like WIM Studio and allied brands such as Canon, Red Cross, Timpers, and Too Good To Go, among others, to make a positive impact on the environment. Additionally, ILUNION Hotels holds the Ecostars certification and has developed a responsible management plan. As reflected in its Sustainability Report, the company’s main environmental impacts come from water and energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions (both scope 1 and 2, as well as those from its supply chain, scope 3), use of raw materials, disposable plastics, and waste generation.

Therefore, it is essential to use newly manufactured products created from the second chance WIM Studio offers by recycling textile materials from ILUNION Hotels’ own facilities, such as pressed curtains mixed with resins and natural carbonates through their innovative technology. This process requires no heat or pressure, effectively reducing the carbon footprint. Through actions like these, ILUNION Hotels takes a further step towards its purpose of building a better world with Everyone Included: People and Planet.
