Project Lucía: when staying is also a way to contribute

When staying is also a way to contribute

July 29, 2026

A hotel stay can leave behind more than just a travel memory. With Project Lucía, ILUNION Hotels invites its guests to discover and support social and environmental initiatives linked to the communities where the company is present.

The program opens up to guests a part of the work ILUNION Hotels already carries out in terms of inclusion, social action, and environmental care. During their stay, each person can discover ongoing projects and, if they wish, contribute through a voluntary donation.

Five causes connected to each territory

Project Lucía gathers initiatives tied to five areas: disability, childhood, vulnerable groups, social action, and environmental protection. Although each project responds to a different reality, they all aim to improve people’s independence, support those facing vulnerability, and strengthen the connection between the hotels and their surroundings.

To bring these causes closer to guests, the hotel teams have information and resources to explain each initiative clearly and accessibly. Their role is to share them naturally, always respecting each guest’s decision on whether and how to participate.

The program combines a national vision with a local perspective. Three of its initiatives are carried out across Spain alongside foundations from the ONCE Social Group, while the rest arise from needs identified in the regions where the hotels are located. In this way, Project Lucía maintains a unified framework across the network without losing touch with each community.

The national initiatives are carried out with the ONCE Low Vision Foundation, which works to enhance the independence and quality of life of people with low vision; the ONCE Guide Dog Foundation, dedicated to breeding and training guide dogs; and the ONCE Foundation for the Care of Persons with Deafblindness, focused on promoting communication, autonomy, and inclusion for this community.

The name of the project itself is linked to this work. Lucía means light and references Saint Lucy of Syracuse, patron saint of blind and visually impaired people. The choice reflects the desire to shed light on realities that often go unnoticed and to give visibility to those working to transform them.

Bringing guests a new way of understanding hospitality

Project Lucía stems from a way of working that is already an integral part of ILUNION Hotels. Inclusion and sustainability are not viewed as standalone actions, but as core criteria embedded in the daily management of its properties.

The next step was to share this model with the guests staying at the hotels and offer them a simple way to take part.

“At ILUNION Hotels, we have spent years demonstrating that inclusion and sustainability can be integrated into the daily operations of a hotel company. With Project Lucía, we want to invite our guests to be part of that purpose and provide them with a simple way to help improve people’s lives, protect the environment, and strengthen local communities,” notes Beatriz Miguel, Managing Director of ILUNION Hotels.

José Ángel Preciados, CEO of the company, also emphasizes this opening up of the model: “With Project Lucía, we want to share our impact model with our guests and invite them to participate in a simple, approachable way. Each stay thus becomes an opportunity to contribute and support causes that improve people’s lives and the environment.”

The hotel network thus transforms into a meeting point for guests, social organizations, and local projects. The guest experience remains unchanged, but adds the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the local environment and collaborate with initiatives already active on the ground.

Project Lucía offers a vision of hospitality that looks beyond the stay itself. Because staying in a place can also be an opportunity to wake up to the reality that surrounds it.
