Once again, we are the official hotel chain for the GAES Pilgrim Race 2017
February 7, 2018
The GAES Pilgrim Race 2018 kicked off yesterday from our ILUNION Atrium hotel in Madrid, with our Managing Director, José Ángel Preciados, cutting the starting ribbon.
This second edition, which takes place between July 1 and 7 with 170 participants, is divided into 7 stages. The first four will be timed, while the final three focus on enjoying the route.
Our participation and the extensive media coverage this cycling event received in 2017—thanks to the inspiring perseverance of our #somosheroes team—have served as a benchmark for the third sector. Consequently, in this second edition, many of the participants taking on this adventure belong to social entities and disability sector organizations, including Alex Roca from Barcelona, who has cerebral palsy and competes on a tandem bike; the A LA PAR Foundation, participating with a team of four people with intellectual disabilities; “El Reto de Pablo”, an initiative raising funds for childhood cancer research; and a team of 50 women from the “Universo Mujer” program, supported by the Spanish National Sports Council (CSD).
The GAES Pilgrim Race is more than just a cycling event; it is a blend of sport, nature, and history offering a unique way to experience the Camino de Santiago. Its goal is to promote cycle tourism and invite participants to a personal journey that fosters values such as effort, self-improvement, personal growth, and disability inclusion.
We are proud to have served as an inspiration for all the individuals with disabilities who have bravely taken on the challenge to participate this year.
