We certify our first five hotels with BREEAM
February 12, 2024
The hotel company of the ILUNION Group, ILUNION Hotels, continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability, including in the management and operation of its buildings. In this regard, five of its hotels have already obtained the BREEAM In-Use certification: ILUNION Atrium, ILUNION Barcelona, ILUNION Islantilla, ILUNION Málaga, and ILUNION San Mamés.
This certification, as a sustainability assessment methodology for existing buildings, is a recognized benchmark that provides a framework to help investors, owners, managers, and occupants successfully implement sustainability improvements in their properties.
ILUNION Hotels aims to be the first hotel company to certify all its hotels
The company’s main goal in this area is to achieve BREEAM certification for all its hotels during the current year. The selection of the first five establishments was intended to understand the requirements needed to obtain this prestigious international certification.
The BREEAM scheme (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) offers a clear roadmap for achieving buildings with better environmental performance, evaluated against the highest sustainability standards. It is supported by an international methodology with over 25 years of experience, present in more than 90 countries. In Spain, it has been adapted to the local language, regulations, and construction practices since 2011 through an agreement between BRE Global Ltd. and the ITG (Galician Technological Institute), establishing BREEAM® ES. To date, over 460 buildings in Spain have obtained this certification.
