ILUNION Hotels celebrates the SDGs anniversary

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a call to action for all countries to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity. These goals were adopted by 193 countries in 2015. There are 17 Goals, 169 targets, and 232 indicators to measure them, addressing global challenges such as education, equality, employment, climate change, environmental conservation, human rights, and peace.

These goals have achieved agreement not only among countries, but also among businesses and society, which represents a global and joint consensus to make the world a better place for future generations.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the SDGs, and more specifically, the halfway point for their achievement by 2030, at ILUNION Hotels, we review our strategic SDGs and how we contribute to them:

SDGs 1 & 2: No Poverty and Zero Hunger: The company contributes indirectly to these SDGs by collaborating with organizations and entities working to end poverty and hunger in Spain and around the world.

  • Partnerships with the Cruz Roja and Accem for refugee shelters, and financial donations with the Cruz Roja for humanitarian disasters.

SDG 3. Good Health and well-being: We guarantee healthy lives and promote well-being at all ages. We are working for the health and well-being of our employees and our guests. To this end, we promote healthy lifestyles for all and offer our guests accessible and inclusive hotels designed to ensure the well-being of all.

  • Health, Safety, and Well-being Plan, within the new “Our Way” people management model, focused on improving the lives of our employees.

SDG 5. Gender Equality: At ILUNION Hotels, we ensure the full and effective participation of women in all activities and equal opportunities for leadership at all decision-making levels in political, economic, and public life.

  • Our commitment to gender equality is reflected in the company’s equality plan.

SDG 6. Clean Water and Sanitation: One of our environmental goals is to reduce consumption and use water efficiently, as well as to minimize the chemicals that impact it. We seek to raise awareness among our guests by conducting awareness campaigns to encourage them to contribute to responsible water use in our hotels.

  • As part of our environmentally responsible management plan, and as one of the negative impacts we aim to improve, we are developing a strategy to reduce consumption and use water efficiently.

SDG 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth: At ILUNION Hotels, we aim to be a benchmark for our good labor practices in the tourism and hospitality sector. Our unique management model is based on diversity and equity and fosters the skills of the organizations of the future: autonomy, self-management, and leadership. We ensure the protection of human rights throughout our value chain, seeking to promote fair working conditions and protect people’s health and safety, extending these commitments to our suppliers.

  • “Our Way” people management plan based on the principles of equity and diversity and focused on the employee.
  • Updating ILUNION’s Responsible and Sustainable Purchasing Policy, which includes ESG criteria in supplier certification.

SDG 10. Reduced Inequalities: The ethical principles promoted by this SDG are our reason for being. We work for the full inclusion of people with disabilities and for the inclusion of all people regardless of any condition or criterion that may constitute grounds for discrimination. These principles are the foundation of our relationship with our people and all our stakeholders.

  • Our unique model: more than 45% people with disabilities, 5% vulnerable people, 60 nationalities.

SDG 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities: This goal invites us to contribute with our work to “Make cities and communities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.” We want to contribute through each of our hotels to achieving more sustainable cities and communities, making each hotel a school of sustainability for all people and a transformative agent for communities.

  • #Changemaker Hotels: centres for sustainable learning and social impact to inspire change.

SDG 12. Responsible Production and Consumption: The goal of responsible production and consumption requires considering measures to ensure a responsible supply chain that integrates ESG criteria into purchasing, prioritizes local purchases and local products, and implements efficient waste management. A fundamental part of achieving this goal depends on the participation and commitment of our customers, which is why it is very important to carry out extensive awareness-raising efforts so that our customers are part of the solution.

  • Updating ILUNION’s Responsible and Sustainable Purchasing Policy, which includes ESG criteria in supplier certification.
  • 98% of suppliers are local
  • Food Waste Reduction Policy: Partnership with To Good To Go

SDG 13, 14 y 15. Climate Action. Life Below Water. Life on Land: The company’s environmental commitment is reflected in our environmentally responsible management plan and our decarbonization plan. We aim to prevent, manage, and repair all the negative impacts of our business activities. We aim to be respectful of the local environment and the ecosystems where we operate, protecting and respecting the natural environment so that our presence does not alter terrestrial ecosystems.

  • Environmentally responsible management plan, to minimize and reduce the negative impacts of our activity and be consistent with our commitment to sustainable development.

SDG 16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: Ethical and responsible business management contributes to creating more just societies. Therefore, our commitment to ethical management and good governance is reflected in documents such as the Code of Ethics and the Human Rights Policy. We aim to advance our involvement in major ethical initiatives in the tourism sector, as well as in the training and awareness of our people.

  • Code of Ethics of the ONCE Social Group, which establishes the company’s values and organizational culture and contributes to achieving the corporate mission and the development of its professionals.

SDG 17. Partnerships for the Goals: Collaboration among all stakeholders through partnerships is the path to achieving the Goals and the 2030 Agenda, but also to achieving our purpose: building a better world with everyone included. We know we can’t do it alone, and that’s why we are signing partnerships with various organizations, associations, and companies to strengthen our contribution of social value.

  • Partnership Policy through which we aim to engage other stakeholders, such as suppliers or social organizations, who share our purpose and values.
