Being profitable without leaving anyone behind: ILUNION Hotels achieves its best financial result with a 30% increase in EBITDA

Madrid, July 2, 2025

ILUNION Hotels publishes its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting key progress under its 2024–2027 Strategic Plan.

With record-breaking figures in business performance and profitability —an EBITDA of €49.7 million, over 30 % more than the previous year— and a team of 1,807 professionals —nearly 60 % of whom are part of its social workforce (people with disabilities or in vulnerable situations)— the hotel company strengthens its position as an international benchmark in accessible, inclusive, and sustainable tourism. It also reaffirms the competitiveness of its unique business model.

“This report, as an exercise in transparency for our stakeholders, reflects the company’s ESG performance, the achievements reached in 2024, and the goals set for 2025 as we continue striving for improvement and purpose” says Elena Martín Cuesta, Director of Sustainability and Excellence at ILUNION Hotels.

Among the key milestones in 2024, the hotel company —part of the ILUNION group and the Grupo Social ONCE— has driven 170 sustainable transformation projects and established 36 new strategic partnerships, resulting in a network of over 90 active collaborations. Joining the B Corp community has been a milestone that sets ILUNION Hotels apart, as has the BREEAM certification now held by 90 % of its hotels. Its strong commitment to inclusion and diversity has also been reinforced through initiatives such as DEIB Coach, a dedicated figure designed to promote diversity and inclusion within the company. In addition, significant strides have been made in purpose-driven innovation and customer experience throughout the year.

Positive Impact with Measurable Results

ILUNION Hotels is driven by a purpose of continuous improvement, and the results from 2024 reflect the company’s ongoing efforts to monitor and improve its performance.

Notably, becoming part of the B Corp movement was the most significant milestone of the year in terms of governance. This achievement confirms the company’s compliance with the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability, placing ILUNION Hotels among the world’s leading sustainable business models.

This recognition is further strengthened by the significant increase in the number of hotels certified with the BREEAM seal, which ensures environmental sustainability in buildings. In 2024, 27 out of the company’s 31 properties (90 %) have achieved this certification, compared to just five the previous year.

In addition, 100 % of ILUNION Hotels’ properties have renewed their Ecostars and QSostenible certifications, reinforcing the company’s commitment to responsible environmental management.

The hotel group has also strengthened its responsible purchasing policy, promoted circular economy measures across all its hotels, and maintained previously established decarbonisation strategies. As a result, over 96 % of the electricity consumed comes from renewable sources.

Moreover, for the first time, the company has measured its water footprint, which will be verified according to the Water Footprint Network standard.

A Commitment to the Team

As part of its strong commitment to inclusion and diversity, ILUNION Hotels places people at the heart of its business strategy. According to the report, 55.5 % of its workforce is made up of people with disabilities or in vulnerable situations, representing a 15.5 % increase compared to 2023. This figure rises to over 70 % in its fifteen Special Employment Centres.

In addition, ILUNION Hotels has launched initiatives such as the DEIB Coach, a support figure designed to promote more effective management of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). This role focuses on listening to and supporting employees, helping them identify their teams’ needs and propose actions to enhance their experience and professional development, always with a clear focus on excellence.

The DEIB Coach pilot project began in 2024 at ILUNION Alcalá Norte, and its gradual rollout across all work centres is planned throughout 2025.

Inspiring Through Experience: Culture, Innovation, and Purpose

Similarly, at ILUNION Hotels, customer experience is a core pillar embedded in the company’s DNA. In 2024, the company promoted the “I’m your host” culture — a philosophy that redefines the guest relationship through the figure of the good host, inspiring teams to deliver authentic, memorable, and transformative experiences.

This approach is complemented by a purpose-driven innovation strategy, #InnovACCIÓN, which serves as a key differentiator in the company’s hotel model.

Within this framework, communication plays a vital role as a tool to connect, inspire, and drive transformation — aiming to make the invisible visible and share stories that reflect the power of diversity and the commitment to a more human approach to tourism.

Campaigns such as “Where Sleeping Means Waking Up” and the “Dreamers” project embody this purpose, giving voice to those who make it possible and proving that a different way of traveling is not only possible, but already happening.
